This is Colombia.
In the meantime we spent about 1 1/2 months in Colombia. A really colorful country with a stunning natural environment, great people and still relatively little tourism. The country is, however, at the same time still in a difficult situation, for 50 years there is a civil war, we experienced many demonstrations and roadblocks, the military and police is omnipresent. Nevertheless, a trip to Colombia is highly recommended. After we visited in the south Tierradentro and the mountain village of Silvia to admire the colorful costumes and markets, we flew directly to the North, and arrived again in the hot temperatures. Here we walked a 5 day trek to the Ciudad Perdida (Spanish for „Lost City“) which is the archaeological site of
an ancient city in Colombia’s Sierra Nevada. It is believed to have been founded about 800 AD, some 650 years earlier than Machu Picchu. Along the way we learned a lot about the Local Tribes Koguis and were amazed how the people still live with their old traditions. A few days relaxation we enjoyed afterwards in the Parque Tairona before we plunged back into civilization – and how – Bogota with around 8 million inhabitants provides the sum of all that we have so far experienced in Colombia. Living in the artists quarter of the city we were able to experience the great street art and graffiti scene up close. In two days we will leave the country with a weepin and a cheerful eye and with a 50 hours bus ride (!!) to Peru.
