Chapati, Chill & Surf
The small coastal town of Kovalam is located 20 minutes from Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala. The bay is lined with restaurants, hotels and shops. During the high season it seems to be a lot going on here, but now, during the off season the hotels were deserted, with low prices and only a few backpackers and surfers found their way to this small town. You read that right – Surfer! Until recently I did not even know that you can surf in India and now I ended up by accident at the hotspot of the Indian surfing scene. It
should be mentioned, the surf scene here is still in its infancy, and thus especially the Kovalam Surf Club strives to build a surf shop, give surf lessons and rent surfboards. And so of course I took the opportunity and rode the Indian waves in the early morning and at sunset. It was awesome! In addition, I explored the small fishing village just over the bay and came across a bright green mosque right on the cliffs, a variety of fishing boats and an enormous amount of waste. India is and will remain a program of contrasts.
