Argentina

A small culture shock awaited me when I reached the Megacity Buenos Aires because I was quite overwhelmed with all the fancy restaurants, expensive shops and well-dressed people – the pure contrast to Bolivia. In general, it was difficult in the first few days to find my way back as a solo traveler and arrange myself. I planned to spend most of my time in Patagonia, and so I hopped on the next bus to arrive 18 hours later in the small town of Bariloche. The sleepy place with all its chalets and chocolate shops reminded me very much in Switzerland. Here, I got to know great people and so we explored together the beautiful National Park and went snowboarding, it was a great time! The onward journey led me afterwards in the cold and snowy El Calafate, from where I reached the Perito Moreno Glacier. The Glacier, which is moving 2 m per day is a true natural wonder and enormously impressive! On I went to El Chalten, the „hiking paradise“ of Argentina, but because I was there in the high-off season only one hostel was open and a lot of hikes were closed because of the many snow. But the situation had also its good side. I so could

wander for hours through the snowy mountains, discovering frozen lakes, forests and mountains, and had not to meet any man on my way. Next I drove via Chile to Ushuia, the southernmost city in the world. Here at the Fin del Mundo, I visited the beautiful and equally deserted Tierra del Fuego National Park and took a boat ride in the icy waters. Gladly I would have gone from here to Antarctica, but unfortunately the 8,000 $ could not cope with my budget. Because I really missed the warm temperatures I decided yet to make a trip to the north of the country. So I traveled in 3 days, the almost 4’500 km by plane and bus. This country is huge! It was wonderful after 3 months of cold temperatures to finally explore again the environment with shorts, T-shirt and sunglasses. And so I tanked here sun and visited the Iguazu Falls which were insanely big and impressive. So now starts the last week of my 14-month adventure and I must confess, I’m really looking forward to return back home. It was more than an amazing trip with awesome people and memories that will stay with me forever but soon, my next adventure in Switzerland will begin.
