Imperial City in Huế
The 10-hour overnight bus ride from Ninh Binh leads us to the historic city of Huế. Under the Nguyen Dynasty from 1802 to 1945 Huế was the capital of Vietnam and the border between North and South Vietnam passed in the north of the city. The so-called Demilitarized Zone saw heavy fighting during the Vietnam War. Here we
visited the Citadel with the Imperial City, which emerged after the model in Beijing. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 and has been heavily damaged during the Tet Offensive in 1968. The city is currently being restored with great devotion and love to details and provides an interesting insight into the old Vietnam.
