From Munnar to Allapey
The bus journey from Cochin to the mountain scenery of Munnar was characterized by a beautiful mountain road overlooking the endless tea plantations and mountain ranges. In the small village I got to know many interesting people and made a trek in the hilly landscape of Munnar. The field workers here picking around 20kg tea leaves daily and receive barely 190Rp (2.80 CHF). Despite obvious poverty I meet here again and again enormously friendly locals who wanted to talk to me. Actually my plan after Munnar was to travel alone in the
direction north, but I met a group sympathetic Austrians and Spanish girls, and so I decided spontaneously to join their itinerary and travel to Allapey. There we rented a houseboat with driver, cook and chill-out area and explored the famous backwaters of Kerala. The atmosphere was extremely relaxed and everyone went to his creativity in the form of painting, wood carving and writing. The evening we enjoyed with a horrible tasting coconut brandy, which we transformed with honey, lime and sprite to a more or less drinkable cocktail. Life is great!
